Majestic Lady

From a tender age, my love for music was deeply ingrained. Growing up around my late father’s sound system, Bussa Hi-Fi, music was not just something I listened to — it was something I lived and breathed. I learned the foundations of sound, rhythm, and selection early on, often playing the “young people’s music” at family functions and community events. I was so small at the time that I had to stand on a Guinness box just to reach the decks — a moment that perfectly captures how determined I was to be part of the music from the very beginning.

That passion naturally evolved into a lifelong journey. In the late 1980s, I began my broadcasting career by joining one of the pioneering pirate radio stations, where I developed my skills, built confidence, and shared my musical knowledge with listeners. Over the years, I became a familiar voice across several respected community stations, including Ragga FM, Station FM, Lovers Rock Radio, and Conscious Radio, leaving a lasting impact within the reggae and Black music community.

My dedication to music has been recognised throughout my career. In 2002, I was honoured with the Best DJ Award at Black Music History Day, recognising my contribution to Black music and culture. This milestone only strengthened my drive. In 2011 and 2012, I was awarded Best Female Presenter on Conscious Radio, solidifying my reputation as a respected and influential broadcaster.

Alongside radio, I have performed at a wide range of events, from clubs to weddings and christenings, sharing stages with prestigious DJs and sound systems. In 2018, I took my talents internationally, travelling to Grenada to co-host the Luciano concert, an unforgettable experience that showcased my ability to connect with audiences beyond the UK.

My journey continues to evolve. In 2023, I joined Seduction City Sound, a female-led sound system, where I have proudly represented at major events including Bournemouth Carnival, Notting Hill Carnival, and Reggae Land, a celebrated festival of reggae music and Caribbean culture. Each performance is an opportunity to uplift, educate, and unite people through music.

My journey as a DJ is a testament to passion, perseverance, and authenticity. From standing on a Guinness box behind my dad’s sound system to performing on international stages and major festivals, I have remained true to my love for music. As the beats continue to play, I look forward to the next chapter of this incredible journey inspiring others, celebrating culture, and sharing the joy of music wherever I go.
